Online Olympiad for students of polylingual groups

From April 16 to April 18, 2019, the Natural and Mathematical faculty and the Polylingual centre have organized an online Olympiad for students of polylingual groups in the following educational programs: physics, geography, computer science, chemistry, biology. The Olympiad was held in order to:
- development of creative initiative, increasing the cognitive interest of students of 2 - 3 courses for in-depth study of subjects;
- identifying the most capable and trained students of 2–3 courses;
- propaganda of deep knowledge in the field of fundamental and applied disciplines;
- identification of significant educational achievements of students in terms of mastering the necessary English language skills for professional and educational purposes.
- promoting the idea of polylingualism, improving the quality of teaching English in high school, determining the level of English proficiency, increasing the motivation to learn foreign languages, expanding students' sociocultural, linguistic and cultural expertise.
- dissemination and promotion of scientific knowledge among young people.
Variants of tasks for the Olympiad, rules for its conduct, rules for evaluating the results of the participants were developed in tandem with the head of the Polylingual centre Ivanova E.S., deputy dean of the Natural and Mathematical faculty Baymaganbetova B.B. The working language of the Olympiad was English.
The organizational and methodological support, as well as the overall management of the Olympiad, was carried out by the Working Group, which was approved by order of the Dean of the Natural and Mathematical Faculty T.S. Shumeyko. The Olympiad was held in two stages: the first stage- online; the second stage is written. The first stage involved the verification of the basic knowledge of the participants. To participate in the first (correspondence) stage, a mandatory condition was that the participant had a computer with Internet access and a digital camera or phone with the ability to take photographs. Competitive tasks, which consisted of 30 tasks of different levels of complexity - 30 tasks for each of the five specialties (biology, physics, computer science, geography, chemistry). For all the tasks performed, it was possible to score a maximum of 100 points. Time for solving tasks was 1 hour.
According to the results of the verification of the solution of the tasks of the first (correspondence) stage, the participants who showed the best results were invited to the second stage. Persons who did not pass the qualifying stage or did not take part in it were not allowed to attend the second full-time stage. Only participants who completed the first stage of the Olympiad and showed the best results in it were allowed to participate in the second (final) stage. The second stage involves checking the cognitive abilities of students, the level of logical thinking, the ability to creatively solve non-standard tasks, allowed the selection of the most talented and motivated for further education of students. The stage was conducted only in person and consisted of the execution of a written task. After checking by the Working Group of students' assignments, the points were calculated and summed up. Students showed the following results:

All winners were awarded diplomas and prizes. The award ceremony was held at the Polylingual centre.
