Competition on spelling of English words “Kazakhstan Spelling Bee – 2018” - victory in the regional tour

A regional tour of the spelling competition of English words called “Kazakhstan Spelling Bee 2018”, organized by the US Embassy in Kazakhstan was held on the January 28^th, 2018 on the basis of the American Corner of the Regional Library named after L.N. Tolstoy.

The main goal of the competition is motivation to learn English and develop intercultural cooperation. More than 40 students of universities and colleges of the city took part in the competition.

The main rule of the competition included the pronunciation of the word pronounced by the jury, spelling by letters without errors and pauses. With each round of words spelling, the participants who made mistakes were eliminated.

The jury was comprised by the leading experts in the field of foreign language - teachers of schools and universities of Kostanai region. The best results were shown by the students of the KSPI, who took the 1^st, 2^nd and 4^th places. So, the first place was taken by the 3^rd-year student of the Faculty of Philology of the Foreign Languages ​​Department studying in 31 EK (poly-lingual) group - ZhanibekUtkelbaev, the 2^nd place was taken by the fourth-year student of this faculty and 41ER (poly-lingual) group - Kim Tatyana. It should be noted that a student of a non-linguistic specialty (Kozhamberdiev S., 2^nd course of the specialty "History" of KSPI) also showed good results in the competition, finishing the 4^th. Students who took 1-3 places in the contest will represent the region on the Republican tour in Astana (March, 2018).
