On October 24, 2018, a traditional tour of first-year students of the specialty “Geography” of the Russian and Kazakh departments to the Geological Museum of the MD “SevKaznedra” took place. The head of the museum, Vera Petrovna, acquainted our students with the history of the creation of the museum, the diversity of its exhibits. So students learned that the geological museum was created in 1956 for purely professional purposes - accounting and storage of geological collection materials. It contains tens of thousands of samples, including rare minerals. The students were presented a collection of exhibits systematized in five sections: regional geology, minerals, educational and systematic collections on mineralogy, petrography and paleontology, jewelery-ornamental and facing stones, souvenirs.
In addition, students had the opportunity to see the unique local finds of ancient fauna and flora. Their special attention was attracted by the bones of elephants and rhinos, the tusks and teeth of mammoths, the teeth of sharks, molds of prehistoric animals, fossilized wood and plant imprints in geological sediments.
The basis of the excursion to the geological museum was the local lore principle, which as a result allowed the first-year students to significantly expand their understanding of the geology of Kostanay region, the wealth of mineral resources, the protection and transformation of the region’s nature.
