“Lesson Study: the experience of schools in Kazakhstan”

The Regional scientific and practical conference called “Lesson Study: The experience of schools in Kazakhstan”, held on the 13th of April, 2018 and conducted by the branch of the Center for Pedagogical Excellence in Kostanay and the Kostanay State Pedagogical University, was held in KSPU.

Aims of the conference were:

  • To identify and disseminate an advanced Pedagogical experience according to the implementation of the lesson and the Lesson Study;
  • To exchange the knowledge and experience between participants;
  • To expand the access to the information within the framework of the Lesson Study.

The methodology and practice reports of pedagogical research in the context of updating the content of education in the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as analysis of the world practice in pedagogical studies were introduced on the plenary session. Those who reported in the Kazakh, Russian and English are:

  • Bibigul Utegenova, department chair of pedagogics of KSPU, Ph.D. in Education: “Methodological basis of the pedagogue research culture»;
  • Elena Onischenko, Director of the CPE branch in Kostanay: "Research skills of teachers in the framework of updating the content of education of RK»;
  • Zhanna Baigarinova, Senior CPE Manager in Astana: "The role of research in the practice of the teacher»;
  • Ian Martin, International Associate Director of NIS of Physics and Mathematics in Kostanay: "Worldwide Practice in Educational Research";
  • Ramazan Raisov, Director of the State Institution "Secondary school № 10 of the Education Department of Kostanay akimat: «Experience of introducing the Lesson Study approach as a way of teachers' professional development".

Further the work of the conference was continued in the following directions:

  1. Experience in the introduction of the approach Lesson Study: issues and prospects.
  2. Formation of effective interaction skills under the joint planning of the lesson as a way to improve the practice of teaching educators.
  3. Reflective practice of the teacher as a factor in improving the teaching process.
  4. Management of teachers' professional development via the introduction of the Lesson Study approach.

Section sessions of the conference were attended by professors and pedagogical staff of the KSPU, the managers of Astana CPE and the branch of CPE in Kostanay, teachers of NIS PhMD Kostanay, teachers of the Kostanay region involved in the Lesson Study process. A total of 197 teachers participated. There was an exchange of views and experience on topical issues of studying the lesson and reflexive teacher practice. Sections sessions were held in an atmosphere of cooperation and mutual understanding, the conclusions and proposals of the participants were aimed at improving educational practices.
